Frequently Asked Questions

What are your cables made of?

Our philosophy is that things are more complicated than merely "copper sounds like this, silver sounds like that". While there may be a hint of truth behind it, there are also many nuances which make such an overly-simplified statement potentially do more harm than good.

At Veritas Cables, we are open to using whatever ends up sounding best in our particular application. Sometimes that means 7N UPOCC silver. Sometimes it's 7N UPOCC copper. Often it is a hybrid involving some of each, or silver-plated copper, or some other techniques which we like to keep to ourselves. Many of our product pages go into detail about the composition of that particular cable, but we don't always want to spell out every single ingredient.

Do you make custom lengths?

Our standard configuration on most cables is 1.5m, with a few exceptions like speaker cables and jumpers. We try to keep everything in stock in those standard lengths, although sometimes demand catches us off guard and we run out.

If you need a different length, please contact us to discuss it. We can certainly build a shorter or longer version of any of our cables. We just add it to our build list and get back to you once it is ready. We don't take payment until the product is finished and ready to ship.

Note that we are a relatively new business that is experiencing fairly rapid growth, so it can be tough to give a completely accurate time estimate. Our main priority is to focus on the standard configurations which we know are in demand.

How long will it take for my order to ship?

This site only lists in stock items in their standard configurations. So if it allows you to proceed with a purchase, that means the cable is ready to go.

We typically ship within 2 days from the time an order is received. Often it is next day, and sometimes even same day, but those aren't always possible. We'd rather under promise and over deliver, not the other way around.

Shipping is handled via USPS which means limited hours on Saturday and no outbound shipments at all on Sundays or Holidays. This may impact the timeframe for some orders.

We use USPS Priority which claims a 3-day transit time in many instances. Sometimes there are delays due to weather or other issues, but for the most part 3 days is often achievable. 4 days transit is the next most common outcome.

Do you ship worldwide?

Our initial plan was to just service the continental United States. Shipping internationally involves more complex paperwork and higher fees. After getting a surprising amount of interest from all over the globe, we have decided to handle international shipments on a case by case basis.

The automated system on this site is configured to decline sales outside of the USA. Please reach out to us directly if you live elsewhere, and we can discuss options. It will require an additional charge for shipping, but we get discounted business rates so it is hopefully not prohibitive.

How does your in-home trial period work?

Our in-home trial period means you have 30 days to use your new cable(s) in your own system. Listen, evaluate, and make sure they meet your expectations in every way.

If you aren't fully satisfied - for any reason - we'll take them back for a full refund minus the original shipping charge. Customers are also responsible for the cost of return shipping.

This makes trying our cables in your own system (which is the only context that really matters!) a very low risk proposition. We get very few returns but sometimes even the best component isn't a good fit in a particular system, and we would never want anyone to feel "stuck" with a cable they don't completely enjoy.

Obviously we expect any returns to arrive in good condition, and we reserve the right to make adjustments to the refund value if something arrives all beat up. It's not an issue we've encountered thus far but it's always smart to have a disclaimer in place, as a preemptive measure.

Do you charge sales tax?

Veritas Cables is based in California and is registered as a Limited Liability Company. This means we are legally required to collect sales tax on all transactions which ship to California destinations.

Customers located in other states are responsible for their own tax liability, if any, based on their local regulations for online purchases.

Will your cable sound good with my (insert audio component here)?

The crew here at Veritas Cables consists of lifelong audiophiles, each with extensive history of owning or auditioning far too much audio gear. While nobody can possibly try every component on the market, we have heard more than our fair share, and will happily use that knowledge to help with recommendations.

Please feel free to reach out via email, and we'll get back to you quickly to discuss your system, your goals, and how Veritas Cables might help you achieve them.

As a new/small business, we can't compete with the massive cable brands when it comes to marketing. But what we can do is offer superior customer service. We're still just audio lovers at heart and we enjoy chatting about it - even if it doesn't result in a sale.

How does a locking RCA connector work?

Locking RCA connectors have a threaded barrel which, when screwed tighter, acts to squeeze or "lock" the connector to the RCA terminal.

This is more self explanatory when the cable is physically in hand to try for yourself. First, make sure the barrel is loosened, and then connect the cable to your component like normal. It will insert like any other cable but may not want to stay put on its own. At this point, simply twist the shell of the RCA connector until you feel resistance, which acts to clamp the connector to the terminal and makes it secure.

You can test it by gently trying to remove the cable - it should be somewhat "locked" in place. If it does come free easily, start over and twist a little tighter.

Please be careful to avoid overtightening, as this could damage the cable or even the terminal in extreme cases. Be particularly careful with a products such as the Argentum R since pure silver is very soft and malleable, thus easy to bend. Keep in mind you are not looking for a rock solid connection that is impossible to separate, but rather just a solid coupling for optimum signal transmission.

How much does shipping cost?

We charge a flat fee of $20 for shipping. This applies whether purchasing a single cable or several, as we can fit multiple cables in a single box for the same cost.

If someone places a large order that requires breaking things up into multiple packages, we essentially subsidize them by still only charging the flat $20. It's our little way of keeping things simple and rewarding folks who make big purchases.

Do you sell used or demo products?

From time to time we will have special items available - demo, B-stock, prototypes, and other things that aren't part of the regular lineup.

These will all be listed at for sale at US Audio Mart. Please click the link to see what might be available at the moment. We'll update those on a regular basis so check back often!
